Maryland Labor Secretary Announces Mike DiGiacomo as Executive Director of the Governor's Workforce Investment Board

BALTIMORE, MD (June 10, 2015) – Under the leadership of Governor Larry Hogan, Secretary Kelly M. Schulz today announced Mike DiGiacomo as the new Executive Director of the Governor's Workforce Investment Board (GWIB). Mr. DiGiacomo brings 30 years of private sector business sales and development, statistical marketing and systems management to the position.

"Mike is a highly motivated leader with a customer-oriented, common-sense approach to workforce and business development. With his extensive experience in economic growth strategies," said Governor Larry Hogan. “I'm confident that his fresh ideas will be a huge asset as we work together to change Maryland for the better.”

Since 2012, Mr. DiGiacomo served as the Regional President of Accelerent where he facilitated strategies that increased new member business by $20 million and retained a 90 percent partner retention. Prior to that, Mike was the President of Sales and Business Development at The Matworks Company where he implemented strategies that achieved and maintained an unprecedented customer satisfaction rating of 98.7 percent.

His deep experience in the private sector and his commitment to providing a high level of customer service, combined with his approach to relationship management will serve us well. The Governor's Workforce Investment Board (GWIB) is the governor's chief policy-making body for workforce development. The GWIB is a business-led board, a majority of whom represent the business community, as mandated by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA).The Board will be restructured when the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 is implemented over the coming months and years.

The GWIB is responsible for developing policies and strategies to form a coordinated business-led workforce system from a variety of education, and employment and training programs. It brings together and focuses businesses, workforce development partners and stakeholders on two key outcomes - a properly prepared workforce that meets the current and future demands of Maryland employers, and providing opportunities for all Marylanders to succeed in today's economy.
