Apply for an Original Appraiser or Original Appraiser Trainee License - Real Estate Appraisers, Appraisal Management Companies and Home Inspectors

If you opt to apply using the paper application, e-mail the completed form to DLOPLRealEstateAppraiser-DLLR@maryland.gov.

Current License Period

All original real estate appraiser licenses are valid for three years commencing on the effective date that appears on the license. All renewals are issued on a three year cycle when renewed before their expiration date.

Application Process – Applying for an Original Appraiser License by Examination

To complete the application process, you must have successfully completed the National Uniform Licensing and Certification Examination administered by PSI. You will have to enter your Commission-issued registration number and your personally-chosen password in order to complete an electronic application.

Application Process – Applying for an Original Appraiser Trainee License

To complete the application process, you will be required to send to the Commission photocopies of course completion certificates reflecting a minimum of 75 hours of qualifying education:

  • A minimum of 30 hours must be devoted to appraisal principles, and a minimum of 30 hours must be devoted to appraisal procedures;
  • Fifteen hours must be devoted to USPAP. All qualifying education must be approved via Appraiser Qualifications Board Course Approval Program and by the Commission. All qualifying education must be completed within the five year period prior to the date of submission of a trainee application;
  • You must complete and provide a Trainee and Supervising Appraiser Verification Form that identifies your supervising appraiser; and
  • You must provide evidence of having completed a Commission-approved Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser course.
